through laughs and woes

she stood by me

with 10 toes

them pedicured roots
kept us planted
hell we’ve been through
but survived the hail damage
rain might have fallen
but we just kept standing
maturity kept us grounded
values keep us established

nothing too lavish
but so middle classy
wrestled with money
tag teaming finances
double-up income
got us changing tax brackets
and shopping for something brick
home doesn’t come in plastic

for real
words can’t express what she did for my heart
even expanded my vocabulary
from mine to our’s
she is the reason we made it thus far
so she’ll be the first to drive my dream car

her love was race ready
the pace is life steady
we survived the speed bumps
they slowed us down
to appreciate just how far we’ve come
check our track record
we’ve built momentum
forever is at the finish line
lookout...here we come

and lawnmowers
a toast to minding our own grass
